Art classes are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 2 Smith Art Gallery located in Historic Downtown Duluth. Since 2008, Pam and Larry Smith have taught an average of 110 students a year the joy of painting. Together they make a dynamic teaching team. Their goal is to help maximize your painting experience, by giving you the opportunity to interact and learn from two different teachers during your class time. They teach using the Socratic method, actively demonstrating painting techniques with you, together they help you make your paintings the very best they can be. Larry’s specialty is landscapes, color theory, brush and palette knives techniques, dixie-cup humor and playing music.
Larry’s work was recently chosen Best in the Painting Category at the 2016 Dogwood Festival. And he was awarded the Directors Award at the 2016 Piedmont Art Festival. He teaches both oil and acrylic painting. Pam is known for her patient ability to teach others how to paint and how to create beautiful oil portraits. She was recently selected to paint a portrait of State Legislator Brooks Coleman.
Pam and Larry compliment each other. They bring strong teaching understanding to the studio/classroom, while fostering an encouraging learning environment. Classes are well suited to the beginner and to the experienced painter who is looking to improve their painting skills.
